Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
Disney's flagship resort is a Victorian confection of red-gabled roofs, white latticework, and a five-story lobby where a live orchestra plays from the balcony and an aviary-cage elevator glides past chandeliers. It sits one monorail stop, or a lovely waterfront walking path, from Magic Kingdom, and everything about it is pitched at special-occasion travel: afternoon tea at Enchanted Rose's sister salon, Victoria & Albert's (the only AAA Five Diamond restaurant at Disney World), a spa, and beach views of the castle fireworks across the Seven Seas Lagoon. Rooms are plush and traditional. It's the most expensive address on property and it knows it; for anniversaries, honeymoons, and once-in-a-lifetime trips, nothing else feels quite like it.
🛏️ The Rooms
Rooms are the most traditional on property: plush headboards, marble touches in the bathrooms, and balconies or patios on most of them. Standard rooms sleep five, which few deluxe rooms do, and the outer buildings feel quieter than the main house. If you can swing a lagoon view, the castle across the water at fireworks time is the whole reason this hotel exists. The Big Pine Key rooms are my pick for the balance of view and walk.
✨ The Lobby & Grounds
The five story lobby is the show: white latticework rising to stained glass domes, an aviary cage elevator, and a live orchestra playing from the balcony most evenings. Even if you never stay here, come one evening in your park outfit, get a drink, and just listen. The grounds continue the theme with rose gardens, white sand along the lagoon, and the wedding pavilion tucked on its own little island.
🏊 Pools & Recreation
Two pools split the mood: the Courtyard pool is quiet and elegant with a hot tub, while the Beach pool has the waterfall, the slide, and the zero entry side where little ones splash. The white sand beach along Seven Seas Lagoon is lounge chair heaven at fireworks time, and the marina rents boats by the half hour. It is recreation pitched at relaxing, not thrill seeking, and that fits the place.
🍽️ Dining at Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
This is the best restaurant lineup of any Disney hotel if your budget cooperates. Victoria & Albert's is the only AAA Five Diamond restaurant in Orlando and books months out. Citricos and Narcoossee's handle special occasion dinners with fireworks views, 1900 Park Fare does the character meals, and the Enchanted Rose lounge makes the prettiest cocktails on the monorail loop. 🎀 Mal's Tips
Take the walking path to Magic Kingdom instead of waiting for the monorail; it is ten flat minutes along the water and often faster. Book afternoon tea once per trip, it is the most Grand Floridian thing you can do. And the beach at fireworks time is free to anyone staying here, so do not watch from your room.
