This Week at Disney World: September 13-19

Happy Sunday! 🍂 If you're heading to the parks this week, you picked one of my favorite stretches of the whole year. Mid-September is that lovely little pocket where summer crowds are long gone, the Halloween decorations are up, and you can still get on things without sprinting. Here's what to know.

What's Happening in the Parks

Magic Kingdom is in full Halloween mode. The pumpkin bunting is on Main Street, the Cinderella Castle decor is up, and Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is running on select nights. This is the part people forget: on party nights, Magic Kingdom closes early to regular day guests (usually 6pm), and party guests start filtering in around 4pm. Check the calendar before you commit to an MK day. If your date is a party night and you don't have a party ticket, treat it as a half day and hop somewhere else for the evening.

EPCOT Food & Wine is cruising along. We're past opening-week enthusiasm and not yet into the holiday-season rush, so weekday afternoons in World Showcase are genuinely pleasant right now. Weekends still get busy after 4pm, especially around the Eat to the Beat concert times. Go early, go weekday, and you'll have a much calmer time at EPCOT.

Weather check: still hot and humid, with a real chance of afternoon storms most days. We're also at the statistical peak of hurricane season, so if you're traveling this week, keep an eye on the forecast and book flexible where you can.

Animal Kingdom tends to close earliest of the four parks this time of year, so front-load your day there and don't count on a long evening.

Snacks and Merch Worth a Look

  • Halloween treats are everywhere: candy corn and pumpkin spice everything, plus the Mickey pumpkin cake pops that show up all over Magic Kingdom.
  • The Halloween merch is out in force. If you're eyeing a specific pair of Halloween ears, buy them when you see them. Seasonal ears sell through and I've watched too many people gamble on "I'll grab it tomorrow." (More ears thoughts over on my ears page.)
  • At Food & Wine, the fall-leaning booths are the most fun right now. Anything with apple, pumpkin, or maple is doing the most this month.

What to Wear This Week

Still dressing for summer, decorating for fall. My formula: breathable fabric in an autumn color. A rust or olive tank, a flowy skirt or bike shorts, sneakers you've already broken in. Bring a packable rain jacket or poncho, not a hoodie. And if you want Halloween energy without overheating, let your ears do the work. Orange bow, pumpkin sparkle, done.

One Planning Tip

If you're booking a trip 60 days out from this week, that lands you in mid-November: holiday party season, Christmas decorations, and much higher demand for table service. Get your dining reservations set the moment your window opens at 6am Eastern. Check my dining notes for where to aim first, and if you want a full day-by-day, start with the itinerary builder.

Have the best week. 🏰

never miss a park update ✨
