Not-So-Scary in the Final Weeks: My Hour-by-Hour Party Plan
We're officially in the home stretch of Mickey's Not-So-Scary season, and the last couple weeks of October are the most popular (and most crowded) party nights of the whole run. If you have a ticket in hand for one of these final nights, I want you to get your money's worth, because party tickets are not cheap and five hours goes faster than you think.
Here's the plan I actually use, hour by hour. 🎃
First: the stuff people get wrong
Your party ticket gets you in at 4:00 p.m. The party runs 7:00 p.m. to midnight, but you can tap in three hours early with a party ticket only. This is the single biggest value in the whole event and so many people show up at 6:45 and miss it.
The second parade is the quiet one. Boo To You usually runs twice, around 9:15 and again later in the night. The first one draws an enormous crowd. The second one you can often walk up to twenty minutes ahead and still get a curb spot.
Check the times guide the morning of. Showtimes shift, so pull up My Disney Experience before you leave your hotel and screenshot the party map. I build my night around three anchor times: parade, fireworks, and the castle stage show.
My hour-by-hour
4:00 to 6:30 p.m. I tap in right at four and head straight for the headliners while most ticket holders are still at their resorts. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Peter Pan's Flight, Space Mountain. These are the lines that stay long even during the party, so I knock them out early.
6:30 to 7:15 p.m. Eat. I either grab a quick service in Tomorrowland or, if I planned ahead, book a 5:15 reservation at Liberty Tree Tavern or Skipper Canteen so I'm done before the party starts. Eating during party hours is a waste of good candy time. More dining strategy over on the dining page.
7:15 to 9:00 p.m. Treat trails and characters. The trails run through Frontierland, Adventureland, Tomorrowland, and Storybook Circus. They move quickly, and cast members will absolutely hand adults candy, no questions asked. Bring a bag with a zipper. This is also when I line up for the rare meets (the Seven Dwarfs and the Nightmare Before Christmas pair tend to draw the longest waits, so pick one, not both).
9:00 to 9:45 p.m. I skip the first parade and ride instead. Haunted Mansion, Pirates, Big Thunder, Jungle Cruise: wait times drop off a cliff while everyone is lined up on Main Street.
9:45 to 10:30 p.m. Fireworks. Find a spot in the hub about twenty minutes out. The show uses projections on the castle, so you want to be facing it, not off to the side behind the Partners statue.
10:30 to midnight Castle stage show, second parade, and one last loop of the treat trails (cast members get generous with handfuls near the end). I end my night on the Mad Tea Party or Haunted Mansion, then walk out slowly and actually look at Main Street with the purple and orange lights on. That's the part I remember.
What I wear
Late October in Florida is still warm at 4:00 p.m. and genuinely pleasant by 10:00. I go with a lightweight dress or shorts and a long sleeve I can tie around my waist, plus shoes I'd be fine standing in for six hours.
Adults can wear costumes to the party (no masks, no props that look like weapons, nothing that blocks your face), but I'm a Disneybound girl. My go-to for the final nights: a black dress, purple and green accents, and my Haunted Mansion wallpaper ears. If you want ideas, I keep my favorites rounded up on the ears page.
One real tip: skip anything heavy or hooded. You will sweat, and you will regret it by hour three.
If you couldn't get a ticket
The Halloween decor and the Main Street pumpkins stay up through October 31 during regular park hours, so a normal day at Magic Kingdom still feels like fall. Then the changeover to Christmas happens fast in early November. If you're planning around that window, my itinerary guide has the day-by-day framework I use.
Have the best party night. Get the candy. 💜
never miss a park update ✨
