My Food & Wine Game Plan: How to Eat Through World Showcase Without Getting Full Too Fast
October is my favorite time to do the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival. The weather finally feels like something other than a hair dryer, the festival has been running long enough that the booths are running smoothly, and World Showcase at golden hour is honestly one of the prettiest places on earth. 🍂
But I have watched so many people walk in, order three full plates at the first booth they see, and then be too full to enjoy anything else. Let's not do that. Here is exactly how I approach a festival day.
Go right, not left
When you cross the bridge into World Showcase, almost everybody turns left toward Mexico. I turn right toward Canada and work counterclockwise.
The Canada side (Canada, UK, France, Morocco, Japan) tends to be calmer for the first hour, and you get through the heaviest hitters before the lunch rush hits. By the time you loop around to Germany, Italy, and Mexico, the crowd that started left is already headed back toward the front of the park.
One exception: if there is a booth you absolutely cannot miss, go there first no matter where it is. Some of the most popular items sell out in the evening.
Split everything
This is the single biggest tip I have. Every portion at the booths is a few bites. If you are with another person, order one item and split it. You will try twice as many things for the same money and you will not hit the wall at 1pm.
My rough rule: plan on four to six savory items and two desserts across a full afternoon, split between two people. That is a very full day of eating.
The things I order every single year
- Canada: the filet mignon with mushroom risotto. Yes it's one of the pricier booths. Yes I get it anyway. It's Le Cellier energy in a small bowl.
- Ireland: the warm chocolate pudding with Irish cream. Perfect dessert that is not a cupcake.
- Germany: schinkennudeln, which is basically pasta with ham and cheese. Deeply unglamorous and deeply good.
- Brazil: pão de queijo. Cheap, warm, and great when you need a break from rich stuff.
- Greece: spanakopita. Easy to eat while walking.
- Hawai'i: the Kālua pork slider with sweet and sour Dole pineapple.
Booth menus shift a little year to year, so grab a Festival Passport at the entrance (they're free) and circle your must-tries before you start walking.
Practical stuff that saves the day
Mobile order where you can. More booths offer it every year and the pickup lines are usually shorter than the standby lines.
Bring your own water. Booth drinks add up fast and you need actual water between all that salt.
Look at the Sip and Savor Pass math. If you are doing eight or more items, it usually pays off. If you're doing four, it doesn't.
Eat to the Beat is free. Concerts run at the America Gardens Theatre most festival nights. Check the showtimes in the app in the morning and pick one to sit down for. Sitting down for 30 minutes in the middle of a grazing day is genuinely restorative.
Work the rides around the food
I treat the attractions as palate cleansers. Remy's Ratatouille Adventure and Frozen Ever After are both right in World Showcase, so I hit those between booths. Test Track and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind live up front, so I either rope drop those before the booths open or grab a Lightning Lane return later in the day.
More EPCOT strategy lives over on the EPCOT park page, and if you want a full day laid out for you, check the itinerary section.
What I wear
Comfortable and a little bit elevated. A flowy midi dress or a good skirt and tee, with sneakers you can stand in for eight hours. Something with a loose waist, for obvious reasons. I like a spice-colored or olive tone for festival photos because it looks great against all the World Showcase greenery.
For ears, I go with something simple in a fall shade rather than a big character pair. My Figment and my Orange Bird ears both get a lot of October use. More ideas in ears.
Go slow, split plates, and sit down more than you think you need to. That's the whole trick. 🧡
never miss a park update ✨
