How I Book Disney World's Hardest Reservations (Without Setting Three Alarms)

If you booked a dining reservation this morning, you were booking for mid-December. That is how the 60 day window works, and it means holiday trips are officially up for grabs right now. 🎄

I get more questions about this than almost anything else, so here is exactly what I do. Not theory. The actual routine, including the part where I miss the table at 6 AM and still get it three days later.

Know your window before the night before

Disney World dining opens at 6:00 AM Eastern, 60 days ahead of your check in date. Two important details people miss:

  • If you are staying at a Disney resort hotel, you get your check in day plus the next 10 days all at once. That is a huge advantage. You can book day 1 through day 10 on a single morning while everyone else has to come back daily.
  • If you are staying off property, you book day by day, 60 days out from each individual date.

So if you are a resort guest with a December 14 check in, this morning you could have grabbed everything through December 23. Check your hotel situation before you panic about the calendar.

My actual 6 AM routine

I am not a morning person, so I make this as short as possible.

1. The night before, I open the My Disney Experience app, make sure I am logged in, and confirm my credit card is saved. Nothing worse than losing a table because the app wants you to re enter a card.
2. I write down my top three in order, with a backup time range for each. Not a list of twelve. Three.
3. At 5:55 I open the app and sit on the dining search page.
4. At 6:00 on the dot I search for my single most wanted restaurant. I book it, then immediately search for number two. Do not browse. Do not look at pretty photos. Book, move on.

The ones that genuinely need the 6 AM treatment: Space 220 at Epcot, Oga's Cantina, Cinderella's Royal Table, Topolino's Terrace breakfast, Be Our Guest, and 'Ohana dinner. Everything else I can usually land later with the trick below.

The refresh trick that actually works

Here is the thing nobody tells you: tables open up constantly. Disney charges a per person cancellation fee if you cancel inside 24 hours, so a huge wave of people cancel right at that 24 hour mark. Plans change, flights move, kids get tired.

What I do:

  • Check the app at random times, not just once. I have gotten Space 220 at 9 PM on a Tuesday and Cinderella's Royal Table two days before my trip.
  • Search with a wide time range first (breakfast through dinner), then narrow. Searching "7:00 PM" exactly will show you nothing.
  • Try a smaller party size. A party of 4 is harder than a party of 2. If you are five people, search for 2 and 3 separately and see if the same slot exists twice.
  • Check the morning of. This is my favorite one. The 24 hour cancellation wave hits hard and most people have given up by then.

I do not pay for a reservation finder app. I have never needed one. Fifteen seconds of refreshing a few times a day has gotten me everything I have ever wanted.

Walk up lists are real

In the app under the restaurant's page, look for Join Walk Up List. You have to be physically inside the park or resort, and it opens when the restaurant opens. Oga's Cantina, Sci Fi Dine In, and Garden Grill all take walk ups and I have been seated in under 40 minutes more than once. It is the most underrated feature in My Disney Experience.

A few honest reality checks

Cinderella's Royal Table is about the castle, not the food. Space 220 lunch is a better value than dinner and the view is identical. And if you strike out completely, Magic Kingdom quick service has gotten genuinely good. A Columbia Harbour House seat upstairs with a window over Liberty Square is a lovely meal, no alarm required.

Once you have your tables locked, slot them into your day before you build anything else around them. I put mine into my itinerary first, then plan rides around the gaps. More restaurant notes and my current favorites live over on the dining page.

Happy booking, and good luck at 6 AM. ✨

never miss a park update ✨
