How I Actually Park Hop: My Favorite Combos, Timing, and Transportation Shortcuts

Park hopping is the add-on I get the most questions about, and my honest answer is that it's worth it if you plan the hop instead of winging it. A bad hop means an hour on a bus and a park you barely see. A good hop means you get the best morning at one park and the best evening at another, which is genuinely my favorite kind of Disney day. ✨

Here's exactly how I do it.

The two rules I never break

1. Hopping starts at 2:00 PM. Your Park Hopper lets you into a second park any time after 2:00, and you still need a park reservation for your first park of the day. I usually aim to actually make the move between 3:00 and 5:00 so I'm arriving with the second park's evening ahead of me.

2. The second park is not for headliners. I treat park two as shows, snacks, atmosphere, fireworks, and maybe one or two Lightning Lanes. Anything I truly need to ride, I do at rope drop in park one. (My arrival strategy is in my rope drop routine.)

One bonus note: with Lightning Lane Multi Pass you can book selections at your second park too, as long as the return times land after 2:00 PM. I book those in the morning while I'm standing in a line somewhere.

My favorite hop combos

Hollywood Studios morning to EPCOT evening This is the best hop at Disney World and it isn't close. Hollywood Studios front-loads beautifully: Slinky Dog Dash, Rise of the Resistance, Tower of Terror, Runaway Railway. Then around 3:00 I walk out the International Gateway side via the Skyliner (or the walking path, or a Friendship boat) and I'm in EPCOT World Showcase in about 15 minutes with zero bus involved.

Right now that means landing in EPCOT for Food & Wine booths in the late afternoon, dinner around the world, and Luminous at the end. Perfect.

Animal Kingdom morning to Magic Kingdom night Animal Kingdom is a genuinely great half day. Be there for opening, do Flight of Passage and Kilimanjaro Safaris early, eat lunch at Satu'li Canteen, and you're done by 2:00 when the heat gets serious anyway. Then a park-to-park bus over to Magic Kingdom for a completely different mood, dinner, and Happily Ever After.

Magic Kingdom morning to EPCOT evening The monorail hop. Resort monorail to the Transportation and Ticket Center, transfer to the EPCOT line, and you're walking in under Spaceship Earth feeling very fancy about it. It's not fast, but it's shaded, it's seated, and it feels like part of the day instead of a chore.

The hops I skip

  • Anything into Hollywood Studios late. Waits stay stubbornly high there all evening. The one exception is a Fantasmic night, and even then I want a Lightning Lane in hand.
  • Two-bus hops. Animal Kingdom to Hollywood Studios technically works, but the timing rarely feels worth it.
  • Three parks in one day. I've done it. I did not enjoy it. Two is the number.

Logistics that make the hop painless

  • Mobile order before you leave park one. I place my order for park two while I'm still walking to transportation so food is waiting. My full approach is in my mobile order playbook.
  • Give it 45 minutes. Even easy hops eat time. Bus waits, security, walking. Plan for it and you won't feel rushed.
  • Check the second park's show times first. If Luminous is at 9:00, I know exactly when I need to be in place and I build backward from there.

What I wear on a hop day

Hop days are long days, so this is not the outfit to experiment with. I wear my most broken-in sneakers, a breathable dress or a soft tee with shorts, and I pack a light layer for the air conditioning stretch on the monorail or a table service dinner.

For ears, I pick a pair that works in both parks rather than trying to theme-match two places. A simple sequin bow or a neutral pair photographs well against Spaceship Earth and the castle, and headband ears with a comfortable band are the ones I actually keep on past 8:00 PM.

If you're mapping out a whole trip, I'd plan one hop day and keep the rest single-park. That's the balance that's worked best for me. Start with my itinerary framework and slot the hop in on your Hollywood Studios day. 💛

never miss a park update ✨
