Hollywood Studios in One Day: My Hour-by-Hour Fall Plan

Of all four parks, Hollywood Studios is the one where a plan genuinely changes your day. Magic Kingdom forgives wandering. Hollywood Studios does not. The park is compact, the headliners are stacked on top of each other, and Toy Story Land turns into a frying pan by noon.

So here is the plan I actually follow in the fall, hour by hour. Adjust the times to your park hours, but keep the order.

Before you go: two decisions

Decide on Lightning Lane the night before. If you are buying Multi Pass, book Slinky Dog Dash first (it is the hardest to get and the longest standby all day), then Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway, then Tower of Terror. Rise of the Resistance is a separate Single Pass purchase. I buy it when I am visiting with people who do not do well in long lines, and skip it when it is just me and I am willing to rope drop.

Book Oga's Cantina or a sit-down lunch now. Oga's reservations go fast and the walk-up list is a gamble. If you want a real meal, 50's Prime Time Cafe around 1:00 is my favorite midday reset in this park.

The hour-by-hour

7:50 a.m. Arrive at the tapstiles. If your park opens at 9:00, Early Entry for resort guests starts at 8:30, and being in the first wave matters more here than anywhere else. Even without Early Entry, get there 45 minutes before open.

8:30 a.m. Walk (do not sprint, there are a lot of strollers) straight to Rise of the Resistance. First thing in the morning the posted wait is usually its lowest of the entire day.

9:20 a.m. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run while you are already in Batuu. Ask for engineer if you want the least stressful job.

10:00 a.m. Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway or Tower of Terror, depending on where your Lightning Lane window landed. Both are indoors and air conditioned, which matters by mid-morning even in October.

10:45 a.m. Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, then grab a cold brew at the Trolley Car Cafe on Sunset.

11:30 a.m. Slinky Dog Dash on your Lightning Lane. Do it before the Toy Story Land pavement starts radiating heat. Add Toy Story Mania right after if the wait is under 35 minutes.

12:30 p.m. Lunch. Woody's Lunch Box for the brisket sandwich and totchos if you want quick, Docking Bay 7 if you want quick with better seating, 50's Prime Time if you want to sit in actual air conditioning for an hour.

2:00 p.m. Show block. This is the part people skip and then regret. Beauty and the Beast: Live on Stage, Disney The Little Mermaid: A Musical Adventure, and For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along are all seated, shaded, and genuinely good. Pick two.

3:30 p.m. Baseline Tap House or Epic Eats for a snack, then wander Grand Avenue and Sunset Boulevard for photos while the light is nice.

4:30 p.m. Back to the hotel if you can swing it. A real break beats pushing through.

7:00 p.m. Return for Star Tours, any re-rides, and dinner at Sci-Fi Dine-In if you booked it.

8:30 p.m. Fantasmic!, then ride whatever has the shortest line in the final 20 minutes before close. Tower of Terror after dark is a completely different experience.

What I wear here

Hollywood Studios has the least shade of any park, so October still means sunscreen at 10 a.m. and a light layer in your bag for Fantasmic!. I go with a short sleeve tee, denim shorts or a midi skirt, and sneakers you have already broken in. Sunset Boulevard is all pavement and your feet will tell you about it.

For ears, this is my Minnie-in-vintage-Hollywood park. Black ears with a red bow look right against the Chinese Theatre, and if you are a Star Wars person, a Batuu-inspired pair photographs beautifully in that red rock. 🎬

More park-by-park routes live in my itinerary guides, and my restaurant picks are over in dining. Have the best day. ✨

never miss a park update ✨
